School Elections

Elections for the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board took place on Sunday, November 16, 2003. Following amendments to the School Board Elections Act, the number of electoral wards is established by the number of electors on the school board’s electoral list as determined by the Director General of Elections of Quebec. The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board electoral list is established presently at 32,008 electors. As such, the school board is entitled to 17 wards. The Council of Commissioners petitioned the Minister of Education to maintain its current 19 wards. The Minister approved this request in August of 2002.

The school board adopted in principle a division of the 19 electoral wards and proceeded to a 15-day public consultation as provided for in the School Board Elections Act. Having received no opposition to the proposed division of wards, the Council of Commissioners adopted a resolution at its October 2002 meeting for the final version of the electoral wards for the November 16, 2003 elections.
